Coal handling:

  • For equipment such as cranes, conveyors and stacker/reclaimer mixers used in coal handling, maintenance and protection against abrasion is a prime concern of the power plant operators.  Welding Alloys offers a wide range of products, services and equipment to meet all these requirements and have proven results in many applications.  Integra Service Centres produce specially wear-resistant bucket blades for ship unloading buckets, designed to be economic for handling systems.

Vertical Grinding Mills
  • Vertical grinding mills pulverise coal for coal-fired power plants.  Welding Alloys has developed on site and in-house wear prevention solutions for all designs (rollers on race, rollers on rings, balls with two races etc.) and from all main mill manufacturers.  Over 2,000 records of hardfacing applications on vertical grinding mills are stored on WA's Integra Service Centres' database, providing unrivalled information on performance of hardfacing materials.

Hydroelectric power.

  • According to their design, the hydroelectric power plant turbines are subjected to various types of failure mechanisms, or a combination of mechanisms including erosion, cavitation and mechanical fatigue.  For turbine manufacturers, operators and specialised maintenance workshops, Welding Alloys has a complete range of cored wires for surface cladding and maintenance, with activities carried out in many locations worldwide.

Biomass power plants.

  • Biomass burning boilers, for example burning bark and refuse in the paper industry, are fed with long screws.  As the transported material is often polluted by earth, sand and other debris, the screw flight wears prematurely.  Preventative or maintenance hardfacing is currently performed in specialised workshops operating with the support of Welding Alloys or in our Integra Service Centres, using WA designed and build MultiSurfacer automated equipment, bringing an economic and automated solution to a common problem.
