Recycling of metals: steel, aluminium, copper, etc.

  • Car shredders used for steel recycling are subjected to intense impact from scrap metal, together with abrasion from glass and other debris.  All elements of the shredder rapidly wear out but large savings are generated by planned maintenance of the main elements such as the rotor holding and the hammers.  Frequent hardfacing keeps the shredder in its optimal working condition, whilst optimising replacement costs and downtime.
  • WA Products and applications: HARDFACE AP-O

Recycling of plastic, glass and construction material

  • Glass is a commonly recycled material and crushed glass is used in civil construction or to produce new glass parts and containers.  Crushed glass is highly abrasive with all components within the transport line rapidly wearing out.  On glass crusher plates, the service life is up to 10 times higher with Integra 3-DCarb than with conventional Mn steel or hardfaced plates, providing huge saving in replacement costs.
  • WA Products and applications: Integra products, Integra 3-DCarb

Urban waste incineration plants

Waste incineration plants - Scrubbers
  • Waste incineration plants generate corrosive and dangerous fumes.  To absorb and neutralise the fumes, scrubbers are installed on the exhaust circuit.  Due to the complex nature of the chemicals the scrubbers are made of corrosion resistant steel, with a high alloy content.  The producers of scrubbers benefit from the use of WA Cored Wires for joining these special alloys, through welding efficiency and high quality results.
  • WA Products and applications: TETRA V 904L

Incineration combustion chamber

  • Inside the incineration combustion chamber, chemical reactions create corrosion on the boiler panel walls.  This corrosion, combined with erosion from airborne ash, thins the boiler panel walls to a critical thickness where maintenance is required before water leaks occur.  Frequent inspection is required to avoid major outage.  Preventative or maintenance corrosion protection of the walls is performed with automated welding techniques and nickel based alloys to ensure efficient future operation.
  • WA Products and applications: MultiSurfacer boiler panel cladder, Water-cooled Panels

Biodegradation of vegetable waste

  • Organic waste is treated either in biomass boilers or by biological degradation to produce fuel gas.  Material handling causes wear to loaders, conveyor screws and feeder equipment.  Reinforced hardfaced components are frequently used to improve reliability and reduce machine downtime, bringing maintenance operations under better control.
