Cladding plays a critical role in protecting equipment that operates in tough environments. At Welding Alloys, we provide cored wire solutions that deliver long-term reliability and performance where it matters most.
By bonding a corrosion-resistant alloy (CRA) onto a carbon or low-alloy steel structure, cladding combines mechanical strength with cost efficiency and lasting protection. Several techniques can be used, including hot roll bonding, explosion bonding, and weld overlay. Among these, weld overlay is the most flexible and widely used, as it allows the corrosion-resistant layer to be applied directly on the surface through welding. Whatever the cladding method, weld overlay remains essential to rebuild or restore the protective layer at joints, nozzles, or edges after fabrication.
Welding Alloys cored wires make effective weld overlay possible, ensuring excellent bonding, controlled dilution and corrosion resistance in cladding operations.
► Three alloy families for every cladding need
Our cored wires are developed to match the most demanding environments, offering optimal protection across industries such as oil & gas, chemical, power generation, and steelmaking.
TETRA – Stainless Steel Alloys
Providing excellent corrosion and oxidation resistance. Available in austenitic, super-austenitic, duplex, super-duplex and heat-resistant grades:
GAMMA – Nickel-Based Alloys
Providing superior resistance to chlorides, acids and high temperatures, ideal for chemically aggressive environments or high-temperature process conditions:
625, C276 and 400.
STELLOY – Cobalt-Based Alloys
Contain hard carbides in a cobalt matrix, delivery proven resistance to wear, erosion and hot corrosion:
STELLOY 1, 6, 12, 21 and 25.
► Focus on the TETRA range
Our TETRA cored wires are recognised for their exceptional performance in weld overlay applications, offering consistent quality and reproducible chemistry, even in complex cladding operations.
When cladding on carbon or Cr-Mo steels, the right combination of buffer and top layers is crucial. TETRA offers proven pairings such as:
TETRA 309L-G / 308L-G → for 304L overlays
TETRA 309LMo-G / 316L-G → for 316L overlays
TETRA 309LNb-G / 347L-G → for stabilised 321 stainless overlays
Etc.
These combinations ensure perfect metallurgical compatibility, low dilution and compliance with ASME IX chemical requirements (sampling at 3 mm below the surface).
TETRA wires are available for both semi-automatic and automatic welding processes, offering smooth feeding, stable arc behaviour and a clean weld appearance.
► Built on expertise and full production control
We even design and manufacture the equipment that produces our cored wires, giving us full control over every stage of production and ensuring consistent quality, repeatability, and performance. This level of control means our customers can count on dependable results every time.
