Within the Petrochemical industry distillation and other types columns are primary pieces of equipment used to carry out the processes of gasification, separation of chemicals, liquefaction and storage. These columns connect to upstream and downstream equipment, thereby establishing a complex and integrated process system.
Corrosion often occurs in distinctive areas inside columns or could be present across a larger, more general area. The location and number of affected areas are determined by the type of process material, it’s temperature and physical properties. Corrosion inevitably results in material thinning and is responsible for systematic structural damage through thickness deterioration. This requires ongoing monitoring and the effects of corrosion have to be repaired from time-to-time.
