At the start of 2024, a Welding Alloys Integra™ services team provided maintenance to a regular cement customer’s Vertical Roller Mill. Material in the mill had begun to cause abrasive wear to the reject cone, resulting in a small hole appearing on the cone surface.
When the team returned at the end of 2024, the damage to the reject cone had worsened significantly, leading to a larger hole and the formation of a secondary hole in the separator discharge section. The customer needed to repair the damage quickly during the plant’s shutdown to prevent further downtime and additional damage to the cone.
Welding Alloys used the customer’s drawings to engineer sections for repairing the damaged areas of the cone. Using our Hardlite™ wear plate, the team cut, rolled, and shaped two sections, which were delivered to the site and installed by our service engineers.
Hardlite™ was chosen for its lightweight properties and ease of forming, making it an ideal solution for an area with weight restrictions. Hardlite™ offers exceptional resistance to abrasion and erosion in areas with low levels of impact.
The plant can now expect a reduction in the wear rate of the reject cone lining and increased production time throughout 2025.
