Following on from their recent work in the glass recycling industry, Welding Alloys UK was approached by another customer experiencing wear on a piece of equipment during the paper separation process.
The part plays a key role in separating paper from glass, which involves separating lightweight material particles from heavier particles, cascading the mixed in-feed material through an upward-travelling airstream inside a zigzag enclosure.
The material then passes through the rotary feed plates, which experience high levels of wear on the lips of the plates from tramp material that isn’t filtered out during the process. Welding Alloys UK replaced these sections of the lips using our Hardlite wear plate and coated the entire wearing face with a wear-resistant compound, Boron Nitride.
Boron Nitride was applied to the surface to not only provide a smooth finish but also offer further resistance to friction wear from the glass material as it filters past the plates during the process.
We hope to see an increase in the lifespan of the part, which will lead to further productivity for the plant.
