In the recycling industry, as with any industrial sector, equipment durability is paramount. The team at Welding Alloys South Africa recently received a customer enquiry about wear issues on impeller blades. These blades play a crucial role in plastic recycling, ensuring a consistent mixture that meets quality standards and enables the effective use of recycled plastics in new products.
Welding Alloys analysed the wear occurring as well as the environment the part was operating in, and determined that the best solution would be Hardplate™ 100.
Hardplate™ 100 is a heavy-duty composite wear plate that consists of a low carbon base material and welded overlay thickness, using various chromium and complex carbide based alloys. It is designed to endure high working temperatures, harsh environments and extreme wear.
The wear plates were cut to the required dimensions and the blades were lined with the Hardplate™ solution in our workshop. The Integra™ services team at Welding Alloys South Africa successfully provided a solution that would combat the wear occurring from abrasion on the blades. After being put back into service, the customer reported exceptional results. The impeller blades, protected with Hardplate™ 100, showcased superior wear resistance, with the customer noting that they had not encountered a better product.
The customer benefited from a significant increase in the service life and efficiency of the part, which in turn reduced the total cost of ownership.
The customer’s satisfaction is a testament to Welding Alloys’ ability to deliver effective solutions to the recycling industry, amongst others. Welding Alloys’ wear products not only met but surpassed the customer’s expectations.
The Integra™ services team are currently working on applying this solution to a third impeller for the customer.
