Welding Alloys France formalises its CSR commitment

Recently, Welding Alloys France (at the initiative of senior management, quality and HR) underwent a CSR audit and obtained the commitment charter. This action clearly establishes the company’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility.

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is defined by the European Commission as the voluntary integration by companies of social and environmental concerns into their business activities and their relations with stakeholders. For companies belonging to the metallurgical sector such as Welding Alloys, it is a question of integrating these concerns into their production activities.

A company practising CSR will seek to have a positive impact on society while remaining economically viable.

ISO 26000, an international standard, defines the scope of CSR around five central themes:

  • Governance and strategy – Transparent and ethical corporate governance is essential for CSR in metallurgy. This involves responsible risk management, open communication with stakeholders, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Social/HR – We are committed to creating local jobs, fostering diversity and inclusion within our workforce, promoting training and skills development for our employees, and supporting local communities and associations in their social and development projects.
  • Product/Market/Service Development – Welding products can have a significant environmental impact, primarily due to substances emitted during the welding process and associated waste management. In a CSR approach to reduce the environmental impact of our products, we are constantly seeking to develop new wires that have less impact not only on the environment but also on welders. For instance, we have developed non-copper coated wires that have the same properties as the copper coated versions.
  • Production and environmental impact
  • Company ecosystem

These five themes are framed in 75 questions, identical throughout the world. Welding Alloys France scored 13.4/15, earning it the CSR Commitment Charter.

A number of strong points were identified, including:

  • Making digital technology an efficiency factor
  • Interacting with our local ecosystem (other than industry)
  • Creating sustainable employment

Obtaining this charter is a powerful additional sales and recruitment argument for Welding Alloys France and commits the company to responsible purchasing. This initiative not only formalises the commitment by Welding Alloys France to CSR, but further strengthens the pledge that Welding Alloys Group has made to sustainability.

An excellent social and environmental initiative!
