Gauge Corner Restoration: supporting rail maintenance in Asia

Welding Alloys recently delivered a Gauge Corner Restoration (GCR) welding machine to a customer in Asia. Faced with the high cost of replacing worn rail, they needed an effective alternative. The GCR machine provided a practical solution to extend track life, reduce the need for full replacement, and lower overall maintenance costs.

As with all our machine deliveries, support was a key part of the project. We worked closely with the customer to ensure everything was ready for operation. We supported the customer on site with setup, operator training and trial welds. A member of our Machines team in France travelled to Asia to assist on site and ensure the machine was fully operational. The trials went as expected, and the GCR machine is now ready to support their maintenance programme.

The GCR machine is portable and easy to deploy. It restores worn gauge corners through automated welding, delivering consistent results with full process traceability. When used with our high-performance cored wires, the system not only increases efficiency but also improves wear resistance—extending the life of the repair and reducing the need for repeated intervention.
