Flex-e-bot workshop demo at Welding Alloys Spain

Our Flex-e-bot (cobot) is a collaborative robotic solution developed specifically for hardfacing, cladding, surfacing and weld overlay applications. It combines the skill of the welder with the precision and repeatability of a collaborative robot, while keeping the operator fully in control.

Designed for both workshop and on-site use, Flex-e-bot assists the welder by carrying and guiding the torch with controlled, repeatable movements. This reduces physical effort and exposure to heat and fumes, while improving weld consistency and overall quality.

We recently hosted an internal Flex-e-bot demo at Welding Alloys Spain with colleagues joining from across Europe. The session focused on how the system supports maintenance and repair activities, as well as small to medium production runs where flexibility and quick deployment are essential.

The demo began with system installation and magnetic anchoring close to the work area, followed by a walk-through of the intuitive programming process. Using the touchscreen pendant and hand-guided programming flange in freedrive mode, key positions were recorded directly by guiding the torch along the component. This simple, manual teaching approach allows trained welders to create and modify welding paths without specialist robotic knowledge.

We then demonstrated typical weld patterns used in hardfacing applications, including single beads, weaving patterns, multipass overlays and programmed shapes such as triangular, square and trapezoidal areas. These programs can be saved and recalled, ensuring consistent weld profiles across repeat jobs and multiple components.

Typical applications include hardfacing of wear components such as shredder blades and other recurring repair tasks where the same surfacing pattern is repeated. By ensuring stable torch movement and synchronised welding parameters, the system improves bead consistency while reducing operator fatigue. Faster set-up and repeatable programs also help reduce downtime and increase workshop throughput.

It enables one operator to manage repetitive surfacing tasks more safely and efficiently, while maintaining the flexibility required for maintenance and repair operations.
