Bringing Machines Back to Life: Retrofit Upgrade for a UK Steel Plant

In December, Welding Alloys successfully completed a retrofit upgrade on a roll cladder for a steel plant in the UK. The machine had been out of operation for years, but rather than investing in a costly replacement, the customer opted for a retrofit—restoring full functionality with the latest technology at half the cost of a new machine.

This project was a combined effort between the technical experts from our Machines Business Unit in France and the Welding Alloys UK team. Together, they assessed the condition of the machine, identified the necessary upgrades, and implemented a full D3 upgrade. This included modern software, a new beam, and the installation of high-performance welding heads, equipping the machine with the latest technology for improved efficiency and reliability.

The upgrade not only enhanced precision and performance but also significantly increased productivity. With quick installation and minimal disruption to operations, the customer was able to put the machine back into use without the long lead times and high costs associated with purchasing new equipment.

Retrofitting is an ideal solution for extending the life of older welding machines, regardless of their make or age. Our comprehensive upgrade process ensures compliance with the latest safety standards while enhancing efficiency through advanced software, user-friendly controls, and customisable features tailored to production needs. Additionally, using readily available components means reduced downtime and easier maintenance in the long run.

If you’re looking to improve machine performance and productivity but can’t justify the cost of a new machine, our retrofit solutions offer the perfect balance of performance, reliability, and economy – bringing outdated equipment back to life with modern technology.
