The FCB Horomill® is a new generation of grinding equipment using breakthrough technology in bed compression grinding that enables producers to improve their grinding plant operation. Buzzi Unicem chose the FCB Horomill® as a major component of the modernization of their Maryneal, Texas facility which started in 2013.
The FCB Horomill® presents some unique challenges to rebuild. In some ways, The FCB Horomill® is similar to a roller press with one big roller. In other ways, it is similar to a vertical rolling mill – with a rotating table or shells as it is called in the Horomill®. The base materials of the roller and shell are more similar to a vertical rolling mill than a roller press.
While the FCB Horomill® at the Maryneal facility is the first in the US, it is not the first in the Americas. WA Panamericana (WAP) has rebuilt several of these mills in Mexico. So when Buzzi Unicem approached WA USA about rebuilding this mill, we leaned on our WAP colleagues for advice and assistance to develop a proposal for Buzzi Unicem.
Buzzi Unicem was impressed with our knowledge and expertise and awarded WA USA the contract to rebuild their mill during the 2018 winter outage. WA USA teamed up with WAP to complete the project. One engineer and one technician from WAP joined the WA USA service team onsite for the 14 day project to advise, teach, and share their expertise to ultimately deliver the best solution to Buzzi Unicem. Together, they completed the project on-time and on-budget.
